I have enjoyed living in the Rapid City area. It is not big enough to have that "big city" feel and has the conveniences you won't find in small town America (been there). The climate is enjoyable (except for this last winter - what's up with that?) and a weekend vacation to the Hills or a day at the Lake is no more than an hour away.
The fact that Rapid City is located some distance from a major metropolitan area has allowed it to develop a character all its own -- character that feels honesty and hard work are still important.
